Refund policy

At KARAAT Jewelry, we strive to ensure your complete satisfaction with every purchase. Below are the details of our return, exchange, and resizing policies:

General Returns and Exchanges

We offer a 30-day return and exchange policy for most items.

  • You have 30 days from the date of delivery - which includes the day your order arrives at your shipping address or designated pick-up location - to ensure your item(s) are returned to our warehouse for a return or exchange.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • The item(s) must be in unused, undamaged, and unaltered condition, without scratches, and in their original packaging.
    • Diamond certificates (where applicable) must be included.
    • Proof of purchase (e.g., receipt) is required.

Gift cards are non-refundable.

Wedding and Engagement Rings

For wedding and engagement rings, we offer 30 days of free resizing to ensure the perfect fit.

  • You can send the ring back to us for resizing, or in some cases, we may advise you to take the ring to a local jeweler for resizing.
  • If resized locally, we will reimburse the cost up to €85.
  • Resizes beyond this window are available as a paid service. Some ring designs cannot be resized due to their construction; we will advise on a case-by-case basis.

Bespoke Orders

Bespoke orders are non-returnable as they are custom-made. However, we offer a 30-day exchange policy for these items.

RETURN AND EXCHANGE INSTRUCTIONS

We’ve made it simple to return or exchange your item(s). Follow these steps to ensure a smooth process:

1. Register Your Return or Exchange

Send an email to contact@karaatjewelry.com with your order number and the reason for your return or exchange.

  • For exchanges: Specify the details of your desired replacement item(s), including the size and gold color.

2. Prepare Your Parcel

  • Place the item(s) in the original box or a similar sturdy carton, and securely seal it with tape.
  • Print the return slip provided to you, and attach it to the box. Ensure the return slip covers the original shipping label, with the barcode clearly visible.

    3. Send It Back

    • Ship the parcel to us using DHL Express. Our team will provide detailed shipping instructions once your return is registered.

    Important Notes

    • KARAAT thoroughly inspects all returned items before processing refunds or exchanges.
    • Diamonds will be tested to verify their authenticity and lab-grown origin.
    • If any damage, alteration, or harm has been caused to the jewelry or diamonds by you, a jeweler, or a third party, the return policy and warranty will no longer apply. In such cases, the item will not qualify for a return, exchange, or refund.

    For orders shipped outside the EU, please note that repairs and resizing are handled according to our Terms of Service.

    REFUNDS

    Once we’ve received and inspected your return, we’ll send you an email to confirm receipt of your item. This email will also include the outcome of the inspection and whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

    If approved, your refund will be processed promptly. A credit will be issued to your original method of payment, typically within a few business days, depending on your bank or payment provider.

    LATE OR MISSING REFUNDS

    If you haven’t received your refund yet, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Check your bank account again to ensure the payment hasn’t been posted.
    2. Contact your credit card company, as it may take some time for your refund to officially post.
    3. Reach out to your bank, as processing times can vary between institutions.

    SALE ITEMS

    Refunds for sale items will only be processed for the purchase price paid at checkout.

    REPLACEMENTS

    We replace items only if they arrive defective or damaged. If you need a replacement for the same item, please contact us at contact@karaatjewelry.com, and we’ll guide you through the process.

    LIFETIME WARRANTY

    At KARAAT, we stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of every piece we make. Our lifetime warranty reflects that commitment and is designed to give you confidence in your jewelry for years to come.

    This warranty operates in addition to, and does not limit, the statutory consumer rights you have under Finnish and Swedish consumer protection law.

    What "Lifetime" Means

    The warranty covers the natural lifetime of the piece itself, for as long as it remains in original, unaltered condition. It is fully transferable — if you gift or resell your KARAAT piece, the warranty continues with the jewelry, provided the new owner can present the original proof of purchase.

    What Is Covered

    • Manufacturing defects — flaws in materials or construction present at the time of delivery.
    • Workmanship flaws — issues arising from how the piece was made, including faulty solder joints, structural weaknesses, and stone settings that fail under normal wear.
    • Plating wear within 12 months — if visible plating wear occurs within 12 months of the delivery date (or the date the piece became available for pickup from our showroom or a courier service point), we will re-plate at no charge.
    • Lost gemstones under 0.5ct — any stone under 0.5ct that is lost from the piece will be replaced at no charge. For rings in our Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings collections, this benefit requires yearly maintenance documentation (see below). Replacement stones will match the original specifications as closely as KARAAT can source, in line with our standard quality range for that stone.

    If a covered issue arises, we will repair or replace the piece at our discretion. If the original piece has been discontinued and cannot be replaced identically, we will offer the closest equivalent from our current collections or a comparable remake.

    What Is Not Covered

    • Lost gemstones of 0.5ct and above — for stones of this size, we strongly recommend separate jewelry insurance.
    • Damage from accidents, impact, or chemical exposure.
    • Repairs, modifications, or alterations made by anyone other than KARAAT or a KARAAT-authorized goldsmith.
    • Normal wear and tear, including patina, surface scratches, and gradual finish softening.
    • Plating wear occurring after the 12-month window.
    • Loss or theft of the piece.

    Yearly Maintenance — Required for Stone Replacement on Engagement and Wedding Rings

    Free replacement of lost stones under 0.5ct on rings in our Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings collections is conditional on ongoing yearly maintenance. This is the one part of our warranty that asks something of you, and there's a good reason: these are rings worn daily, often for decades, and the most common cause of stone loss is a loose prong that could have been caught during a routine check.

    • The first maintenance check must take place within 12 months of the order date, and every 12 months thereafter.
    • The check may be performed by KARAAT or by any professional goldsmith with a registered business (Y-tunnus in Finland, organisationsnummer in Sweden, or equivalent abroad).
    • You must retain and provide documented proof of each maintenance — a dated receipt or service report from the goldsmith confirming that the piece was inspected (settings, prongs, structural integrity).
    • If a yearly check is missed, free stone replacement is paused until the next check is completed and documented. All other warranty coverage — manufacturing defects, workmanship, plating, repair of setting failures — remains unaffected.

    How to Make a Warranty Claim

    1. Email us at contact@karaatjewelry.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos.
    2. We will respond within 3 business days with next steps and, if needed, a return shipping label.
    3. Inbound shipping for warranty claims is covered by KARAAT. Return shipping after repair is also covered.
    4. We recommend insuring the piece during shipment to us; KARAAT is not liable for loss or damage in transit until the piece is received at our workshop.
    5. Typical turnaround is 4–8 weeks from receipt, depending on the nature of the repair. Complex repairs or remakes may take longer; we will keep you informed.

    Non-Warranty Repairs

    Repairs falling outside the warranty are available for a reasonable fee. We will provide a quote before any work begins.

    Caring for Your Jewelry

    Fine jewelry is made to be worn and enjoyed. To maximize its longevity, we recommend removing your pieces during:

    • High-impact activities such as sports and exercise
    • Showering, swimming, and sauna use
    • Cleaning, gardening, and other tasks involving chemicals or abrasion
    • Sleeping

    Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, chlorine, and household cleaners.

    After Delivery

    Once your jewelry has been delivered and accepted, insurance and physical protection of the piece become your responsibility. KARAAT cannot be held liable for loss, theft, or accidental damage occurring after delivery.
